The Details

How We Do It

Machine work done carefully in stages — never rushed.

Wash & Decontaminate

The paint is hand washed and clay barred first — cutting over bonded dirt would drag it through the paint, so we start absolutely clean.

Stage 1 — Light Cut

A cutting compound and machine pass levels the paint surface, removing the swirl marks, fine scratches and oxidation that make paint look dull and grey.

Stage 2 — Heavy Cut

A finer second pass refines the surface to a deep, wet-look gloss — this is where the colour comes back.

Stage 3 — Finishing Cut

An ultra-fine finishing pass on a soft pad — known in the trade as jeweling — removes any faint haze left by the heavier stages and brings the paint up to a sharp, mirror-gloss finish.

Hand Wax & Protect

A hand wax and polish locks in the fresh surface, then we inspect the result with you in good light.

Good to Know

Buff & Polish Questions

If your question isn’t listed below, call us on 0455 040 229.

Will a buff and polish remove all my scratches?

It removes most swirl marks, light scratches and oxidation. A scratch deep enough to catch a fingernail has gone through the clear coat and may need touch-up paint — we’ll tell you honestly at inspection.

What’s the difference between stage 1 and stage 2?

Stage 1 is the buff — a heavier compound that levels out defects. Stage 2 is the polish — a finer pass that refines the surface to a deep, wet-look gloss. Stage 3 is the finishing cut — an ultra-fine pass that perfects the gloss. Doing all three is what separates a proper buff and polish from a quick machine buff.

Is machine cutting safe for my paint?

Yes, done properly. Cutting removes a very fine layer of clear coat, which is exactly how it’s designed to work — but it’s why you want it done carefully, in stages, not rushed.

Buff & Polish or Ceramic Coating?

They work together — the buff and polish restores the paint, and a Ceramic Coating then locks that finish in for the long term. Many customers do both in one visit.
